If men were measured by what they gave back to the community, the late Harold Leever would tower over Waterbury's clock tower. Generous with both his time and money, his involvement with worthwhile organizations through the years contributed so much to the health, education, and welfare of area residents. Although he is no longer with us, his legacy of generosity and caring about others lives on in the cancer center that bears his name today.
Harold Leever's $2 million gift to the cancer center made him the largest single benefactor of the facility. As remarkable as the gesture was, however, it was only one of many ways he touched the lives of people in the Waterbury area. A Michigan State graduate in chemical engineering, Leever joined MacDermid as a chemist in 1938, went on to become the company's President in 1954, and its Chairman in 1977. |
